Catherine Kilelu joins ILRI’s Livelihoods, gender and impact program

Catherine Kilelu has joined the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) as a post-doctoral scientist under the Livelihoods, Gender and Impact (LGI) program. She is a joint appointee between ILRI and the Wageningen University. In her position, Kilelu’s work will  focus on innovation platforms and will be directly aligned to the Value Chain Transformation and Scaling flagship in the CGIAR research program on Livestock and Fish.

Her main task is to work on a project that will investigate whether and how the innovation platforms approach can be main-streamed into large development organizations in order to determine its scaling-out potential. This project will further investigate the communication and documentation processes employed by the platforms.

Kilelu holds a PhD in Social Sciences from Wageningen University. Her thesis focused on understanding the role of innovation intermediaries in enhancing smallholder commercialization in agricultural value chain development in Kenya. Her research interests and expertise are in the areas of innovation process dynamics, multi-stakeholder platforms and learning for impact in sustainable value chain development.
