Improved water and land management in the Ethiopian highlands and its impact on downstream stakeholders dependent on the Blue Nile
Objective The primary goal of the project is to enhance food security and improve sustainability of livelihoods of poor rural people in the Ethiopian highlands of the Blue Nile through better management and use of water and land, with no negative downstream impacts within Ethiopia and across international borders in Sudan.
The study will make a significant contribution to designing action programs for improving livelihoods of poor communities upstream while minimizing downstream impacts. It will also generate knowledge on upstream-downstream interaction; enhance the effectiveness of interventions to increase agricultural water productivity while minimizing degradation.
