MoreMilk: More milk for lives and livelihoods in Kenya
The goal of the project is to improve the availability and accessibility of safe, affordable and quality milk to consumers in Kenya.
Overview
The aim of the project is to improve the availability and accessibility of safe, affordable and quality milk to consumers in Kenya.
By ‘safe’ we understand a product whose consumption does not harm the health of consumers and by ‘quality’ we mean those characteristics which make it a desirable product for the average consumer, but most particularly milk density and freshness.
This will be done through the implementation of a certification scheme to help small milk businesses operating in the informal sector transition gradually into competitive businesses, compliant with dairy regulations and able to offer a safe and affordable milk product to their customers.
Expected outcomes
- To improve the safety of the unpacked milk sold in the markets.
- To increase the number of small dairy businesses selling pasteurized milk or sourcing milk from pasteurized sources and having Kenya Dairy Board permits and county licenses to sell dairy products.
- To increase the daily volumes of milk sold by vendors participating in the scheme and their dairy revenues.
- To strengthen gender equity in the vendor node of the informal dairy sector.
