Multi-Stakeholder Approach to Linking Technical Options, Policy and Market Access for Improved Land Productivity in the Northern Guinea Savanna Zone
The primary goal of the SubSahran Africa Challenge Program is to test the concept of Integrated Research for Development (IAR4D) as a means to effectively transfer technologies within an enabling environment. This project is one of 3 within the Kano-Katsina-Maradi (KKM) Pilot Learning Site.
This task force focuses its activities within the Northern Guinea Savannah (NGS) agro-ecological zone of Nigeria. It is building Innovation Platforms (IP) aimed at addressing systematically and jointly the multifaceted nature of the problem related to declining soil fertility and feed scarcity at the technological, policy, and markets levels to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and pastoralists in the NGS. ILRI is contributing to this project by working with national partners to evaluate feeding strategies for livestock that can improve income to integrated crop-livestock farmers. An innovation system approach helps to identify and link actors within the livestock sector for more favorable integration of technical interventions within the economic and social environment.
