World Food Safety Day 2024: Vietnam's commitment to food safety preparedness
World Food Safety Day on 7 June 2024, will emphasize the importance of preparing for food safety incidents. These incidents, which pose health risks linked to food consumption, can arise from various causes including accidents, insufficient controls, food fraud or natural events. Effective management of food safety incidents requires coordinated efforts by policymakers, food safety authorities, farmers, food business operators and consumers.
The Vietnam Food Safety Technical Working Group (FSTWG) is celebrating this day by amplifying voices and messages from its members on a KudoBoard at https://www.kudoboard.com/boards/Yi8WR4aM. This initiative aims to raise awareness and encourage proactive engagement in food safety practices in the country.
The Vietnam FSTWG was established to enhance the country's food safety framework under the Vietnam One Health Partnership. The official launch of this working group occurred on 28 September 2023, in Hanoi, and was attended by over 100 food safety experts from various sectors including government, research institutions, the private sector and regional networks from Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. The meeting was co-chaired by Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).
The FSTWG serves as a platform for stakeholders to share experiences, propose initiatives and enhance coordination for food safety.
The One Health Partnership Framework will continue to facilitate coordination between national stakeholders and international partners, strengthening the exchange of research, experiences and practical knowledge to address food safety challenges both nationally and internationally.
