Francis holds a M.Sc. (Agricultural economics) and B.Sc (Agriculture) degrees from the university of Nairobi. He has over 12 years of experience working as a researcher at ILRI and is currently a research associate. His work mainly includes planning and implementing research surveys, data analysis, drafting of technical reports and other research communication materials. Has been involved in research studies in extensive livestock production systems in regions including North and North-Eastern Kenya, Somalia, Zimbabwe and Botswana among others. During his long career at ILRI, Francis has been involved as an author in numerous publications in peer reviewed journals in subjects including livestock health, production and marketing economics. He possesses a high level of competence and experience in various data management and statistical analysis packages including MS Access, SPSS, and STATA which he routinely applies in his work. Over the last 5 years, Francis has been involved in training of teaching a course in Research Methods to the teaching and research staff at the IGAD Sheikh Technical Veterinary School (ISTVS) in Somaliland as part of collaborative project between ILRI and Terra Nuova funded by DANIDA.
