Integrating Crops and Livestock for Improved Food Security and Livelihoods in Zimbabwe (ZimCLIFS)
Almost 12% of rural households in Zimbabwe (more than 1 million people) rely directly on food aid. Past and present research activities by Australian, international and national institutions all strongly suggest that it is possible to address this situation of food-aid dependency by increasing agricultural production, improving food security, and thus alleviating poverty in rural Zimbabwe.
This project will contribute to better integration and intensification of smallholder crop-livestock systems, and help to increase market participation from smallholder enterprises by improving links between market chain actors, enabling them to exploit opportunities, reduce wastage and boosts returns.
