Wondmeneh Esatu holds a Ph.D. in Animal Breeding and Genetics from Wageningen University, The Netherlands, MSc in Animal Physiology from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and an International Diploma in Poultry and Animal Feeds from Barneveld College, The Netherlands, and BSc in Animal Production and Rangeland Management from Hawassa University, Ethiopia. He also has a post-graduate certificate in Food Management from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. Wondmeneh Esatu joined the Livestock Genetics program as a scientist-Livestock Genetics in April 2022, mainly responsible for the chicken breeding improvement programs in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Cambodia. He has worked as a Research Officer in livestock genetics at the International Livestock Research Institute in the African Chicken Genetics Project for three years. Previously, he worked with the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research as a livestock/poultry researcher in different capacities. He has led Ethiopia's National Poultry Research Program for three years and was Deputy Director for livestock research for one year. His research interests include poultry breeding programs, immunomodulation, physiology, and best-cost feed formulation. Wondmeneh has a broad teaching experience in Poultry production, Feed formulation, Animal physiology, and Artificial insemination at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture, Addis Ababa University, Bahir Dar University, Ambo University. He had trained the first trainers on Artificial Insemination in chickens at Egerton University, Kenya, in 2013. He had co-supervised and served as an external examiner for several MSc and Ph.D. students from Haramaya, Bahir Dar, Addis Ababa, and Jimma universities for about a decade. Wondmeneh, during his tenure at EIAR, received an outstanding recognition certificate for contribution to poultry technologies generation, Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2009. He also received a National Science, Technology and Innovation Outstanding recognition certificate and Silver Medal for problem-solving research output in Indigenous chicken breeding, Science and Technology Commission, The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, 2016. Wondmeneh had produced and co-produced several knowledge products.
