Noah Okumu

PhD graduate fellow

Noah Okumu is a PhD graduate fellow at ILRI, whose research focuses on molecular epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance in enteric bacteria at the children-livestock-food interface in peri-urban environments of Dagoretti, Nairobi. This was part of the Urban Infant Foodscape project.

Noah holds a master's in biotechnology from Kenyatta University and a degree in biochemistry from Egerton University. Prior to joining ILRI in 2019, Noah worked at KALRO in the poultry genetics project funded by KAPP and focusing on genetic diversity of local chicken ecotypes and screening for viral disease resistance genes in these local birds with prospects of creating heritability of these genes. He’s also been a part-time lecturer at the Technical University of Kenya.

Research interests revolve around the molecular epidemiology of AMR, gene cloning for disease resistance in indigenous chickens, and the application of molecular and immunological techniques in research and development.
