Michel Dione, Senior Scientist at ILRI, holds a DVM, MSc in environmental Sciences and a PhD in Medical Sciences. He has 12 years’ experience in post-doctoral research on livestock (pigs, small ruminants and poultry) transboundary disease and control of zoonoses in smallholder livestock systems in sub-Sahara Africa. His research also involves ways to improving the delivery of animal health input and services such as vaccines and pharmaceuticals to the farm; as well as investigating the drivers of antimicrobial use and resistance in livestock using a One Health approach. Dione has extensively worked and collaborated across disciplines, and he published more than 120 scientific articles in peer reviewed journals and numerous policy briefs and training manuals on topics spanning from infectious and non-infectious diseases, including parasitic diseases, zoonotic diseases, transboundary animal diseases, animal welfare, epidemiology, food safety, gender and animal health, AMR and livestock socioeconomics. Besides the research, Dione has supervised many MSc and PhD students; and implemented several capacity building efforts for partners, and livestock value chain actors. He supports the implementation of One Health Research, Education and Outreach Centre in Africa (OHRECA) program in West Africa in capacity building and mentoring of the National One Health platforms if Senegal, Burkina Faso and Mali
