Elise Schieck

Elise joined ILRI in 2011 as a Postdoctoral scientist, and is now leading the mycoplasma research at ILRI. Her expertise is in molecular biology with focus on mycoplasmology. In recent years, she has established synthetic genomic tools for Mycoplasma such as genome transplantation and TREC and delineating the role of the mycoplasma polysaccharide capsule, a potential vaccine candidate for Mycoplasma mycoides. The focus of her research is developing/improving existing vaccines for contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) and contagious caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP),  from gaining a better understanding of host-pathgen interactions and virulence, to testing vaccine candidates in vivo.
