Caradee Wright

Caradee Wright is a Senior Specialist Scientist at the South African Medical Research Council leading the Climate and Health Research Programme. She is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Pretoria, Research Associate at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and Senior Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg. Her research focuses on environmental health in Africa, including personal solar ultraviolet radiation exposure and skin cancer prevention, human health risk assessment and air pollution-related exposure and prevention. Caradee has published more than 100 research articles in peer-reviewed accredited journals. She holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of Otago (New Zealand) and a Masters in Geography and Environmental Management from the University of Natal (now UKZN). Caradee co-founded, and is now an alumnus of the South African Young Academy of Science and was co-chair of this organisation from 2011-2013. She is a member of the Global Young Academy, past Vice-President of the National Association for Clean Air, past Co-Editor of the Clean Air Journal, Associate Editor of Photochemistry and Photobiology, and is a National Research Foundation of South Africa C-2 Rated Researcher. Caradee sits on several committees and working groups including the WHO Air Quality Guidelines Committee, the American Society for Photobiology Council, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Assessment Report 6 Africa Chapter Adaptation Section Team, UNEP Synthesis Report Team and was an author of the recently published UNEP Frontiers report on ‘Preventing the next pandemic’.
