Shahida Hussien

Communication and engagement officer 

Shahida Hussien has been appointed communication and engagement officer at ILRI starting November 7 2022. She will work with the Director General’s representative in Ethiopia and the Communication and Knowledge Management team.
Prior to her joining ILRI, she has worked as an international communication and advocacy officer for the UK-based non-governmental organization Brooke in Ethiopia.


Hussien has previously worked as a journalist for the Reporter newspaper in different capacities. During her journalism carrier, she managed to write thousands of articles on scientific discoveries, agriculture, livestock, climate, environment, gender, education, health, migration, and on numbers of other social issues. She has won different awards for her strong content and creative writing style. Hussien is a self-thought photographer, graphic designer, and social media curator. 


Shahida is a graduate of Jimma University in the field of law. She has extensive training and experience in communication, advocacy, and journalism. She is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
