Dr. Ram Pratim Deka is an Internationally Recruited Scientist at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). He has been working with ILRI for the last 17 years and has been leading several complex multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional research projects related to informal dairy and pork value chains, One Health (OH), food safety, zoonosis, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Transboundary Animal Diseases (TAD), exotic livestock diseases, and livestock policy in India. He has taken up the position of ILRI Country Representative for India in March 2024. Prior to joining in ILRI, he briefly worked with the North-Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi), Dairy Development Department of the Govt. of Assam and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank group. Dr. Deka also worked with the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in some of their short-term assignments. Dr. Deka possess a Post Graduate degree in Veterinary Sciences (MVSc) and another Post Graduate degree in Business Administration (MBA). He acquired his PhD degree in veterinary epidemiology from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Sweden. He has several publications in the form of research papers, study reports, training manuals, protocol, extension text, policy brief etc. in his credit.
