Dr. Mark Nanyingi is a Soulsby One Health Postdoctoral Fellow in Epidemiology and Population Health at the University of Liverpool (UK) under the One Health Regional Network in the Horn of Africa (HORN) project and a visiting scientist at ILRI’s Animal and Human Health program. He is the ambassador for the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) in Kenya. He lectures and mentors on infectious diseases epidemiology, mathematical modelling and public health at the School of Public health, University of Nairobi Medical School and Moi University School of Public Health, He is as an adjunct professor of Epidemiology and Global Health at the American University (USA).
He provides One Health technical and scientific support to the UN FAO-ECTAD (Kenya) where he mainly collaborates with the Zoonotic Diseases Unit (ZDU) on implementation of One Health programs through development of relevant One Health strategies, frameworks and policies for Kenya. Previously, he was an epidemiologist at Wellcome Trust, World Bank, WHO, KEMRI and CDC. He also supports the Ministries of Health (Kenya) in implementation of a WHO-Global Fund project on capacity building of healthcare data analytics.
Nanyingi supports the UC-Davis, USAID funded One Health Workforce - Next Generation (OHW-NG) project under AFROHUN and the in-service advanced and applied epidemiological trainings through FELTP and ISAVET which promotes global health security. He has recently authored key publications and opinion articles on COVID-19: Epidemiology in Africa, Modelling approaches and Unlocking strategies
Nanyingi is a vet surgeon with masters and doctorate trainings in Pharmacology &Toxicology, Epidemiology, Clinical Trials, Public Health and Infectious Diseases Modelling from: University of Nairobi, Colorado State, John Hopkins and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
