PhD student

I am a PhD student studying soil restoration strategies to improve degraded grassland. I am based between Lancaster University in the UK and ILRI, and will be spending 3-4 months each year in Kenya. My research is focussed on how to improve soil biological, chemical and physical properties using interventions such as increased plant diversity, grazing management, and organic amendments. The aim of this work is to benefit both livestock grazing and environmental metrics such as biodiversity and carbon sequestration.

Prior to starting my PhD, I worked in various roles in the field of sustainable agriculture in both the UK and New Zealand, from government policy to GIS, and most recently farmer engagement.
I am funded by the UK government via the Envision Doctoral Training Programme (https://www.envision-dtp.org), with additional support from ILRI and the British Geological Survey.
