Derek is postdoctoral researcher at ILRI, specializing in analyzing livestock systems and focusing on socioeconomic and environmental impacts. Using a systems approach, his models analyze synergies and trade-offs between livestock interventions. These models, serving as a foundation for user-friendly decision-making tools, inform stakeholders in national and sub-national policy, farm-level decisions, and Livestock Master Plans. Derek's research at ILRI has included studying the socioeconomic impacts of climate-smart agriculture technologies in Senegal, value chain impacts of a new slaughterhouse in The Gambia, meat demand characterization in Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, and Senegal, the economics impacts of antimicrobial resistance interventions in Senegal and exploring cashmere value chain upgrade opportunities in Mongolia. He holds a PhD from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
