Ambica Paliwal is a Senior Scientist at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Kenya, with over 15 years of experience spanning the United States, Asia, and Africa. Her expertise lies in leveraging geospatial technology for natural resource management, ecology, and agriculture. She has received training from esteemed universities in Europe, the United States, and India. Currently, her work focuses on applying remote sensing and artificial intelligence (AI) to diverse areas, including analyzing forage availability in rangelands, mapping invasive species, implementing participatory GIS at ILRI, developing insurance products for Index-Based Livestock Insurance (IBLI), and soil mapping using machine learning algorithms. She has been recognized with a NASA grant for utilizing high-resolution satellite imagery in smallholder farming systems in Ethiopia. She has also received prestigious awards and scholarships from the European Union, and the governments of the Netherlands and India. Her contributions include several peer-reviewed research articles addressing critical issues such as environmental sustainability, crowdsourcing in agriculture, crop yield gaps, diversification of crop varieties, habitat modeling for wildlife, and the impacts of environmental degradation.
