NIHE–ILRI agreement to deepen cooperation in research for development in Vietnam
On 26 Nov 2018, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) of Vietnam and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) signed a memorandum of agreement that will pave way for deepening their collaboration in research for development.
At the meeting, Dang Duc Anh, the director general of NIHE said the agreement was a ‘significant milestone in our ongoing collaboration that has existed between the two organizations’. ILRI and NIHE have previously worked on One Health and zoonosis research, among other topics.
‘We have come a long way. Now is the right moment to formalize our cooperation and enhance our partnership to continue together,’ said Shirley Tarawali, the assistant director general of ILRI.
Shirley Tarawali said the two organizations would share their experiences to exploit their complementary research, institutional development and capacity development skills.
Together, NIHE and ILRI will focus on communicable diseases, bacteriology, virology, medical entomology and zoonosis, antimicrobial resistance and public health.
The signing took place at the ILRI East and Southeast Asia office in Hanoi, Vietnam and was attended by senior staff from the two organizations.
