The theme of the Joint 24th International Grasslands Congress and the 11th International Rangelands Congress, which will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, 25–30 Oct, 2020, is ‘Sustainable Use of Grassland and Rangeland Resources for Improved Livelihoods’. The aim of the congress is to promote the interchange of scientific and technical information on all aspects of grasslands and rangelands. This includes grassland and rangeland ecology; forage production and utilization; livestock production systems; wildlife, tourism and multi-facets of grassland and rangeland; drought management and climate change in rangelands; pastoralism, social, gender and policy issues; and capacity building, extension and governance.
The International Grassland and Rangeland Congress promotes interchange of information on all aspects of natural and cultivated grasslands and forage crops for the benefit of mankind, including sustained development, food production and the maintenance of biodiversity.
The national organizing committee of the Joint International Grassland & Rangeland Congress, which includes scientists from the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), invites abstracts for concurrent panel sessions, oral paper presentations, and posters to be presented at this global conference. The conference shall present a platform to share cutting edge science and practices in management of the planets’ grasslands and rangelands and offer the participants the opportunity to experience the best from the Eastern African savannas.
ILRI Director General Jimmy Smith is one of nine keynote speakers at this event.
On Wednesday 28 Oct 2020, registered delegates (including student and accompanying persons) will be able to go on one of the thirteen different mid-congress tours; an introduction to ILRI’s Nairobi campus is included in one of these tours. More information about these mid-congress tours is here.
