Scientist, Climate Change Technologies in Practice

Birgit Habermann joined the Sustainable Livestock System Program in March 2019. She has been working on social issues and Participatory Action Research (PAR) in agriculture and forestry since more than 15 years. Her current work focuses on Farmer2Farmers Scaling working with adaptation pioneers in adaptation to climate change. Her research aims at highlighting and understanding livestock keepers' ongoing innovations to understand how science can best complement the work of livestock keepers in adapting to their changing environment using approaches like Citizen Science. Her background comprises degrees in ecology and agroforestry as well as a PhD in Development Studies. Hence, her previous work involved inter- and transdisciplinary research on participation and social issues related to agroforestry, per-urban farming, conservation, forest ecology, adaptation to climate change and participatory approaches to carbon compensation, as well as farmer-oriented approaches in agricultural extension.
