Unlocking the resilience of grasspea: From genomics to the seed system

Peter Emmerich

Peter is a senior research associate at the Norwich Institute for Sustainable Development (NISD) and a visiting group leader at the John Innes Centre, in Norwich UK. He focuses on the development of underutilised crops, in particular the highly climate resilient legume grasspea, applying approaches ranging from biochemistry and diversity genomics to seed system development.

Following his PhD and first postdoc at the John Innes Centre, Peter spent three and a half years working at the BecA-ILRI Hub, before returning to the UK to join the new NISD. His work combines a background in crop sciences with tools from social and environmental sciences to work towards more sustainable agricultural systems resilient to climate change.
