Testing for disease in sheep in Ethiopia

Animal health, mitigation and adaptation

Innovative financing for sustainable livestock development

Livestock production systems differ markedly between national and agroecological contexts, but tailored actions to improve animal health can significantly improve productivity, reduce emissions and enhance livestock keeper adaptation. We will show how climate finance can help achieve these wins.

Session co-hosts: ILRI, BAIF Development Research Foundation, European Dairy Association, International Dairy Federation, International Development Research Centre

Background and session objectives

This group of partners have come together to highlight the importance of improving animal health to help achieve climate change adaptation and mitigation goals. We will discuss the different approaches needed in different livestock production systems and the role that climate finance can play in helping livestock keepers achieve better health for their animals.

The main objective of the session is to illustrate how working on animal health looks different in different settings and the possible pathways to include animal health outcomes in climate finance projects.
