ILRI@50 in Tanzania

Celebrating ILRI’s 50 years of milestones

General information

In 2024, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) marks 50 years of innovative livestock research and development. Over the decades, ILRI has played a pivotal role in transforming livestock systems to improve food security, livelihoods, and environmental sustainability. With a strong focus on the Tanzanian context, ILRI’s holistic livestock research for development programs are well covered in Tanzania including animal genetics, herd health, animal feeding, markets and inclusive value chain development, gender, nutrition, and sustainable livestock systems.

This celebration will provide an opportunity to reflect on ILRI’s achievements, recognize the contributions of its partners, and introduce ILRI’s new strategy for 2024–2030, which will guide its efforts in addressing the most pressing global challenges, including food security, climate change, and human health. This event will also highlight ILRI’s future goals, focusing on sustainable livestock systems that benefit over 300 million people globally.
