Simon is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®) with experience in program management, project management, ERP development, financial management, grants and partner management and accounting.
Simon is currently a Program Manager with the Policies, Institutions and Livelihoods Program at ILRI. He earlier played the role of Program Management Officer within the same program. In addition was involved as a subject matter expert in the development of the ILRI Program Management Framework and was later appointed as a Process Owner for the Program Management Process area. He was also nominated as one of the Process Experts in the development of an ERP for ILRI known as One Corporate System (OCS). Simon was also elected by his fellow ILRI staff as the Chairperson for the ILRI Kenya Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) Council.
Before joining ILRI, Simon worked as a Grants Officer (Portfolio Manager) in the Global Fund Program with CARE International, where he oversaw national and international sub-recipients of the Civil Society component of the Global Fund Round 7 Program in Kenya. He also worked in the Child Sponsorship Program with Childfund International; and the USAID APHIA II Program with Enaitoti Biashara CBO in Kenya.
Simon holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Commerce degree both from the University of Nairobi. In addition, he holds a Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification, a globally recognized accreditation offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI); and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification from the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examination Board (KASNEB). Simon has also attended trainings and courses on management development, people management, advanced Microsoft Excel, facilitation skills, program management, competency based interviewing, professional mediation, risk management, grants management, basic IT and on other management skills.
Simon is very organized, a leader who takes initiative, readily accepts responsibility, professional, committed to what he does, detail oriented and works under minimum supervision. He demonstrates versatility, teamwork, self-motivation and preparedness to excel in a busy and results driven environment.
